With 2022 in full swing, TRRAC Thoroughbred Aftercare has accepted its third resident stallion that will join the organization's retired roster, the second stallion intake of 2022.
"Il Postino" is a 2006 son of Distorted Humor and shipped to TRRAC on April 3, 2022. The decision was made to retire the stallion from stud and place him responsibly in aftercare by his connections.
Il Postino was sold for $300,000 as a yearling in the September Keeneland sale in 2007 before starting his career in racing where he earned $132,924 in 22 starts.
Retired from racing, he was an active breeding stallion in New Jersey and sired runners on the track who are actively racing to this date. His top progeny includes, "Postino's Idol", a 2013 mare who has earned $256,338 in 54 starts, stakes placed "Postino's Champion" who has earned $257,977 in 58 starts, "Postino's Secret" who has earned $130,485 and stakes winner "Alta Velocita" who has earned $334,018 in just 19 starts.
TRRAC welcomed the organization's first stallion intake in December of 2020, "Toy Solider", after his owner suddenly passed away and a call was placed to the organization asking for help to house the stallion.
TRRAC was informed there were "really no other places that will take or can successfully and safely house a breeding stallion". TRRAC is stationed at Maui Meadow Farm, Pennsylvania's oldest thoroughbred farm in the state since 1946- where Pennsylvania's first syndicated stallion , "Bold Effort" son of Bold Ruler, once stood decades ago under General Charles B. Lyman.
The farm housed and active breeding program until 2018, managed by his grandson, Charles B Lyman III. The farm is equipped to house and handle multiple stallions between facility as well as professional knowledge and care of the Lyman's who also run TRRAC. The match was a perfect fit.
A year after Toy Soldier's arrival, another stallion arrived to TRRAC in need of a safe place to call home. "Capitano", a 2001 son of "Belong To Me", who once stood at Fox Tale Stud, arrived to Maui Meadow Farm in January of 2022. He was awarded a grant from After The Finish Line that helped with assistance with veterinarian care, vaccines, farrier care and nutrition. The stallion quickly settled in and the little stallion (standing at a mere 15.2) in the big front window stall is now a fixture that peers over his dutch door and welcomes company with his inquisitive nature.
The need for stallion placement arose due to odd circumstances for all three horses who otherwise would have nowhere to retire to. The farm is situated on 65 acres in a quiet atmosphere. Each horse enjoys an early morning run as grooms clean their stalls. They are then bathed and groomed before returning for lunch and eventual dinner and finally night check.
TRRAC welcomes public visits and education for all horses at the facility, perfect for any thoroughbred fan to engage and learn bloodline history. As the organization thrives from public support, donations made be made online to help with the support and care of the organization's resident horses which cover daily nutrition and care costs.
